Trail Information

The Kokosing Gap Trail is unique because it is the only known paved rails to trail park in America that is maintained by only contributions and the help of volunteers.  Recently the trail was resurfaced from Mount Vernon through Gambier and if you are biking or roller blading you will really appreciate the smoothness of the new surface because it feels like you are gliding.
Did you know that the Kokosing Gap Trail was once an active part of the Pennsylvania Railroad?  You may be interested in knowing that there has been recent discussions over the past few years regarding a future expansion of the trail from Mount Vernon to Fredericktown, Ohio.  Currently the trail begins in Mount Vernon and goes through the college town of Gambier, Ohio where Kenyon College is located, then leads to Howard, Ohio which is where the Apple Valley Lake and Resort is located, and the path ends in the village of Danville roughly 14 miles from where the path started.  If you spend a couple hours on the path be sure to bring your digital camera and a handful of memory cards because the photo opportunities are truly everywhere you turn.
